English 9
Requirement: Humanities 8
This course reinforces the foundation students had in humanities 8 with a continued focus on communication, thinking and personal and social core skills. Through valuable communication, they can develop confidence and fluency and therefore have an extensive understanding of the connections between diverse languages and cultures. Students will learn to respond critically through literature and forms of text and creatively through projects.

Incentive English 9
Requirement: Incentive Humanities 8
This course reinforces the foundation students had in humanities 8 with a continued focus on communication, thinking and personal and social core skills. Through valuable communication, they can develop confidence and fluency and therefore have an extensive understanding of the connections between diverse languages and cultures. Students will learn to respond critically through literature and forms of text and creatively through projects.

Composition and Spoken Language 10
Requirement: English 9
This course specifically helps students in their journey with writing through a critical process of questioning, exploring and sampling. The students will work either by themselves or with a group to explore options and create clear and concise works. Additionally, students will also improve in their speaking technique by introducing them to different formats. This course is a bit more on the creative side as it gives students the potential to experience performances, storytelling and public speaking to fortify their skills.

English studies 12
Requirement: Literary Studies 11 or Incentive Literary Studies 11
The required English Studies 12 course builds on and extends students’ previous learning experiences in ELA and EFP 10 and 11 courses. It is designed for all students and provides them with opportunities to refine their ability to communicate effectively in a variety of contexts and to achieve their personal and career goals. Students will think critically and creatively about the uses of language while exploring texts from a variety of sources, in multiple modes, and that reflect diverse worldviews. Students are expected to contribute to Reconciliation by building greater understanding of the knowledge and perspectives of First Peoples and appreciate the importance of self-representation through text. Ultimately, students will deepen their understanding of themselves and others in a changing world as they gain insight into the diverse factors that shape identity.

English First Peoples 12
Requirement: Literary Studies 11 or Incentive Literary Studies 11
