Intro To Chemistry and Its Importance

Chemistry significantly influences our daily lives, often in ways we might not realize. From cooking food to taking medicines, chemical reactions shape our experiences and the world around us. Studying and applying chemical concepts can lead to new discoveries and solutions that can improve our world.

Your first impression of Chemistry might be that it’s a boring and complicated subject, but amazing things such as fireworks and explosions are based on chemistry so don’t think so low of it! Chemistry is important because everything you do is chemistry! Even your body is made of chemicals. Chemical reactions occur when you breathe, eat, or just sit there reading. All matter is made of chemicals, so the importance of chemistry is that it's the study of everything.

Job Opportunities
Chemistry is a fun option to take if you do decide to pursue it later along the road.

Career Options Available To you are:

Extra Opportunities that might help you out include:

Meet other UBC Chemistry students and interact with faculty, through events and programs.

Gain work experience in chemistry between study terms.

Get involved in summer opportunities or take classes that incorporate laboratory experience in chemistry.

Reach out directly to faculty members to ask about potential research positions.

Receive training in project management and patent development while getting involved in catalysis research.

Chat with an upper-level UBC Chemistry student to learn about helpful resources and opportunities.

During summer, gain hands-on experience in experimental techniques for the study of chemical or biochemical reaction mechanisms.

Attend national or regional conferences in the summer and connect with chemists across industries and academia.

To sum it up, almost everything is Chemistry and is the key to discovering new concepts that can improve our world!

Chemistry is the scientific exploration of matter, its properties, and the transformations it experiences. This branch of science dives into the composition, structure, and behaviour of substances, playing a crucial role in our everyday existence from the air we breathe and the food we eat to the medicines we take and the materials we use. It explores the structure of atoms and molecules, interactions between substances, and energy transformations during chemical reactions.
